FabIS Shop Floor privacy policy

What the Shop Floor app on iPhone, iPad and Android does with information about you, where it goes, and the choices you have.

Effective

Who we are

FabIS Shop Floor (“the app”) is made by FabIS LLC (“FabIS”, “we”, “us”), which is responsible for the information described here. The app is for people who work in steel fabrication shops, and it works with Tekla PowerFab. This policy covers the app on iPhone, iPad and Android.

The short version

  • The app mainly talks to your shop’s own Tekla PowerFab server, over your shop’s network. What you read and record there goes to that server, not to us.
  • You sign in with your own PowerFab username and password. The app keeps that login only in your device’s secure storage: the Keychain on iPhone and iPad, Android’s secure key store on Android.
  • The FabIS cloud is used to confirm your company’s Shop Floor account and, where your shop uses them, for photos attached to records and for time entries.
  • No advertising, no tracking, and we do not sell information about you.

iPhone and iPad compared with Android

The two versions differ in two places.

Your PowerFab login and your shop’s server

When you sign in to PowerFab, your PowerFab username and password are sent only to your shop’s PowerFab server. Everything you then do in the app against PowerFab — looking up pieces, moving them through stations, recording inspections and their photos, receiving material, opening drawings — is read from and written to that server. FabIS does not run that server and does not receive this information. Your shop decides how it is kept.

If you choose to stay signed in, your PowerFab login is stored on your device, encrypted and held in the Keychain on iPhone and iPad or in Android’s secure key store. It is not stored anywhere else.

What goes to FabIS, and why

The FabIS cloud is used for a few things, and for some of them only if your shop uses the feature:

  • Confirming your company’s Shop Floor account, so the app knows your company is set up to use it.
  • Photos attached to records, where your shop uses them.
  • Time entries, where your shop uses Time: what you worked on and when.

We use this information to provide the app to your shop. Your shop’s administrator manages your company’s FabIS accounts and can see what your shop’s users have recorded through FabIS.

Reading a piece mark from a photo

On iPhone and iPad, reading a piece mark from a photo happens on your device, using Apple’s Vision. No photo is sent anywhere to be read: not to FabIS, and not to any other company.

On Android, when no barcode identifies a piece, the photo of the mark is sent to the FabIS cloud and read by Google’s Gemini service on FabIS’s behalf, so the app can offer the matching pieces. FabIS does not store the photo.

Ask (Android)

Ask is an AI chat for questions about your shop. It is not in the first iPhone and iPad version. On Android, it works only after you sign in to a FabIS account. What goes to FabIS is your FabIS account email and a sign-in token, the questions you type, the conversation, and the shop records the app reads from PowerFab to answer them — which can include people’s names and work records. The FabIS cloud sends these to an AI service provider. That provider processes the information on our behalf to write the answer.

Information that goes to Google (Android)

On Android, the app scans barcodes and QR codes with Google’s ML Kit, which runs on your device; the images are not sent to Google. ML Kit sends Google diagnostic and usage information about itself — the device model and Android version, the app’s name and version, how long a scan took, error codes, and a per-installation identifier that is not meant to identify you or your device — which Google uses to maintain and improve ML Kit. Google describes this at developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure. The Android app is installed through Google Play, which has its own privacy policy.

What the app does not do

  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No tracking. The app has no analytics or tracking software, and it does not follow you across other companies’ apps and websites.
  • No location. The app does not ask for or use your location.
  • It does not read your contacts, files, other apps or microphone. The camera is used only when you point it at a piece, scan a code or take a photo in the app.
  • We do not sell information about you or share it for advertising.

The demo shop

“Try the demo shop” runs an invented shop built into the app. Nothing you do in the demo leaves your device.

Kept on your device

The app keeps your sign-in; work and photos waiting to be sent; and shop information saved so the app keeps working when the network drops. On Android this also includes a diagnostic log, and all of it is excluded from Android backup and device-to-device transfer.

You can remove your stored sign-in by signing out in the app. Deleting the app removes the rest of what it stored on your device; on Android, Settings → Apps → FabIS Shop Floor → Storage → Clear storage does the same.

Security

Connections to the FabIS cloud are encrypted (HTTPS). The connection to your shop’s PowerFab server is encrypted by PowerFab’s own software, which does not check the server’s certificate, so your shop should keep its network limited to devices it trusts.

Your choices, and deleting your information

  • On Android, Ask is optional: nothing is sent for it until you sign in to a FabIS account.
  • To ask what FabIS holds about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email info@fabricationis.com. Tell us your shop’s name and how you use the app, and we will deal with it, unless the law requires us to keep something.
  • Records your shop keeps in its own PowerFab system belong to your shop. Ask your shop about those.

Children

The app is for people at work in fabrication shops. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the new version at this address and change the date at the top. If a change is significant — for example, if the iPhone and iPad app started sending piece photos to the cloud to be read — we will say so in the app.
